U.S. Representative from Texas and Democratic congressman on Wednesday, the 264th day of Donald J. Trump’s presidency, presented articles of impeachment against the commander in chief.
“President Trump has not necessarily committed a crime, but he has “undermined” the integrity of his office, “brought disrepute” on the presidency, and “betrayed” the trust of Americans” congressman stated.
Driven by an angry and energized base and insulated by the surety that Republican leaders will block their efforts, liberal Democrats are turning to one of Congress’s most symbolically freighted cudgels — impeachment — to add urgency to their longstanding criticisms of a president they say is unfit for office.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other leaders have sought to tamp down calls for Trump’s impeachment, citing ongoing investigations into his campaign and administration being pursued by congressional committees and special counsel Robert S. Mueller III. Any move to impeach before those probes are complete, they have said, would be premature. (According to Washington Post)
“I believe that there is support across the length and breadth of this country,” the congressman, Al Green of Texas, said in an interview shortly before he went to the floor on Wednesday. “I do not take this lightly.”
Democrats have withdrawn their articles of impeachment against President Trump. Rep Al Green wanted to impeach Trump for his comments on the NFL “kneelers” but obviously was unsuccessful. Probably Texas Congressman had a moment of sanity and decided to spare himself and his party further humiliation.
There are no indications that Green’s resolution has anywhere near the majority support needed to pass, but even if it did, President Donald Trump would not be immediately ousted, it is not a simple process. The Senate would hold a trial which is based on House impeachment, and after that, if they make a decision whether the President should be removed from office.
